Golf Holidays in Spain,
Around Barcelona and Beyond

When golfers search Spain, they usually picture one coast. Catalunya is the other one. Two hundred miles of Mediterranean coastline, from Tarragona to the French border, with Barcelona at the middle, holding the 2031 Ryder Cup venue at Camiral, four courses in continental Europe's Top 50, and a stretch of Mediterranean that has never been built over.

Why Catalunya

The part of Spain that golfers keep quiet about

Spain has more than one golf coast. Catalunya sits on the north-eastern Mediterranean, stretching from Barcelona to the French border, with twenty-plus championship courses, three hundred days of sunshine, and a gastronomy scene with more Michelin stars per capita than any other region in Spain. It is where the 2031 Ryder Cup will be played, and it is quieter than the parts of Spain you already know.

Top 50 Golf in Europe

Four Catalan courses rank in continental Europe's Top 50: Camiral Stadium, Empordà Forest, Platja de Pals, and Peralada. All four are within a forty-minute drive of each other.

The 2031 Ryder Cup Venue

Camiral hosts the 48th Ryder Cup in 2031, the first edition played in continental Europe since 2018. The Stadium Course is open for play today, before access tightens closer to the event.

Coast, Wine, and the Table

Every round ends on the Mediterranean. The Costa Brava begins at the 18th green of half the courses here. Empordà wine country, DO Penedès, and the kitchens of Girona and Barcelona do the rest.

Room to Breathe

Spain's most-searched golf region sees roughly 1.5 million rounds a year on seventy courses. Catalunya's twenty courses see a fraction of that. Tee times run on time, coastal villages are not built out, and dinner reservations are still a question of taste, not availability.

A Sample Week

Seven days, four courses, one coast

One of many ways a Catalunya golf trip can take shape. Every itinerary is built around your group, your handicap, your appetite, and your travel dates.

Day 1 · Arrive Barcelona

Fly into BCN. Afternoon round at El Prat or Sant Cugat, dinner in the Gothic Quarter.

Day 2 · Camiral Stadium Course

The 2031 Ryder Cup venue. One hour north of the city, back to the hotel in Girona for the night.

Day 3 · Rest Day, Empordà

Wine country. A tasting at a small-producer cellar, lunch at El Celler de Can Roca if you booked early enough.

Day 4 · Empordà Forest

Pine, cork oak, and water on almost every hole. Ranked among the best courses in Spain year after year.

Day 5 · Platja de Pals

A links-feel course five minutes from the sea. Afternoon on the Costa Brava beaches.

Day 6 · Rest Day, Costa Brava

Boat out of Palamós, swim a few calas, dinner in Calella de Palafrugell as the sun drops.

Day 7 · Peralada

A final round at the edge of Empordà wine country, then fly home from Girona or Barcelona.

Questions

Common questions about a Spain golf trip to Catalunya

Is Catalunya really better for golf than the Costa del Sol?

Not better, different. The Costa del Sol has scale and a long-established resort infrastructure. Catalunya has density and variety: four championship courses within a forty-minute drive, the 2031 Ryder Cup venue, the Mediterranean coast, and Spain's richest food region. If that mix matters more to you than sheer course count, Catalunya wins. If you want fifty courses in one resort strip, it does not.

When is the best time to visit for a golf trip?

March to June, September to November. Mild temperatures, little rain, thinner crowds than peak summer. July and August are playable but hot at midday and busier on the coast.

How do we get there from the UK or Northern Europe?

Fly to Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) or Girona-Costa Brava (GRO). Daily direct flights from London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Zurich. Most championship courses are under an hour by car from either airport.

Do you plan trips to other parts of Spain?

Catalunya is our speciality, where we know every course, hotel and restaurant firsthand. If your trip calls for days elsewhere in Spain, we can extend the itinerary on request, using local partners we trust in the region you want to visit.

How far in advance should we book for the 2031 Ryder Cup?

Rooms and tee times around Camiral will tighten twelve to twenty-four months before the event. Serious planning for the Ryder Cup week itself should start in early 2029. Any trip before that is straightforward to plan a few months out.
