Aravell Golf occupies one of the most spectacular settings of any course in the Spanish Pyrenees. At 700 metres altitude in the Alt Urgell valley, the 18-hole par 72 layout is framed by the dramatic wall of the Cadi-Moixero natural park to the south and the peaks of Andorra to the north. It sits 15 km from La Seu d'Urgell and the Andorran border, making it the closest championship course to the principality.
The course was designed by Jose Maria Olazabal, one of Spain's greatest golfers and a two-time Masters champion (1994, 1999). Olazabal's routing takes full advantage of the natural terrain: wide valley fairways open up to long mountain views, while strategic water features and bunkering reward thoughtful shot-making. The altitude gives the ball extra carry, a welcome bonus on a course that already plays long from the back tees.
The Pyrenean microclimate is one of Aravell's key selling points. The dry mountain air and well-drained soils mean the course is playable year-round, with cool summer rounds (while the coast is at 35C) and crisp spring and autumn days. Winters are manageable on most days, with snow-capped mountain views adding to the drama.
The resort includes an on-site hotel and restaurant, operated as part of the UGolf network. The Alt Urgell region is known for its cheese (especially the PDO Formatge de l'Alt Urgell i la Cerdanya), its Sant Ermengol fair, and easy access to shopping, dining, and skiing in Andorra. For visitors combining a Barcelona golf trip with a mountain escape, Aravell works well alongside Fontanals (1 hour) and Real Club de Golf Cerdanya (45 minutes).
